Headaches and Chiropractic

Headaches are a common condition suffered by people on a daily basis. It is estimated that around 50% of adults have a current headache disorder, and that about half to three quarters of adults have reported having a headache in the last year, with 30% of those stating they have had a migraine. Headaches and migraines have many root causes and cause an inability to work, think, mood swings, loss of vision, and many other side effects that can affect your lifestyle as well as the quality of life you’re experiencing.

Some common factors that contribute to headaches are dehydration, hormones, stress, lack of sleep, and technology strain, but one of the most common predictors of headaches and migraines is the loss of curve in the cervical spine. The loss of curve is commonly referred to as “text neck” and puts tension and pressure on the muscles of the neck to hold our head upright. The human head weighs an average of 11 pounds, and when extended forward due to text neck, we start to lose the natural curve in the cervical spine. The muscles in our neck act as would reigns on a horse, pulling back as hard as they can to keep our head from slumping forward. This loss of curve not only puts more strain on the muscles in our neck but also applies pressure to the nerves exiting the skull at the base of the cervical spine.

With regular Chiropractic care, we focus on the structure of the body as well as the function. We see that when we provide specific adjustments it allows the biomechanics of the body to correct themselves and we see relief in many people that have been suffering with headaches for years. At Atlas Upper Cervical Chiropractic, we tailor all of our care to each patient and measure adjustments down to the millimeter for each patient to determine how to care for each individual to get the best outcome.  If you have any questions about headaches and chiropractic care or chiropractic care in general, reach out to us at info@atlasucc.com, 847-920-4506 or visit us at www.atlasucc.com or on Facebook or Instagram at @atlasucchiro!
