Health in a pandemic

With a global pandemic happening and most of our homes becoming our workspaces, it is normal to be stressed and focused on the negatives rather than the positives. Prolonged stress can cause many issues on our bodies and take a toll on our mental and physical health. With so much uncertainty surrounding this pandemic, it is important to prioritize our health.

Staying healthy includes living an active lifestyle, which can be improved daily. Exercise is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Movement is one of the biggest keys to staying healthy during stressful times. Great exercises for summertime include walking, running, or riding a bike. Through movement and exercise endorphins are released, helping to improve not only our physical but mental health as well. Exercise improves our cardiovascular health as well as helping reduce the level of stress hormones in our bodies. Another key to our health is nutrition. Our body is fueled by what we eat and fueling it with nutritious food improves function throughout many systems of the body. When we think of nutrition it’s important to not forget water intake. Men are recommended to drink 15.5 cups and women 11.5 cups of water per day (Mayo Clinic, 2017). Making sure we intake the recommended amount of water in a day helps flush toxins and helps our bodies to function at its best.

On top of exercise and nutrition, Chiropractic care helps ease the burden that stress causes to our bodies. Chiropractic care improves the neurological functions of our body allowing us to ease from the stressful state of “flight or fight” to the more relaxed and optimal “rest and digest” state. Many of us are stuck in “fight or flight” mode without even realizing the toll it causes on our health.
